Impact Report | Eight first year sewers participated in six Sewing I workshops held in 2008. Seven 4-Hers completed their totebag, scrunchie, and skirt. One finish just a scrunchie. These 4-Hers learned the parts of a sewing machine, how to sew straight on their machine, how to measure and cut fabric, how to press, and techniques for finishing seams. Seven 4-Hers participated in a baking and foods workshop during which they learned about the importance of measuring accurately and what happens if you do not follow the directions. Four 4-Hers participated in the photography workshop which was led by an outside resource person. They learned how to determine what will make an interesting picture. They learned to look for intriguing parts of a building to take picture of instead of the whole building. All 4 participants agreed that they learned a lot and had a good time. Competitive Event Training provides youth the opportunity to learn decision making skills and public speaking skills. They learn to think through a situation and make a decision. In addition they learn the subject matter they are studying and have some fun. Eight practices were held for the Senior 4-Hers interested in Home Economics Bowl. These 4-Hers worked hard and placed 1st at State earning them a trip to the National Contest. Held 8 practices for the Novice and Junior 4-Hers interested in Home Economics Bowl. Both our Novice and Junior teams placed 1st at District. Held 3 practices for our 4-Hers interested in Consumer Decision Making. We only had 1 novice and 1 junior participate at district but both placed in the top five at district. Offered 9 practices for Home Ec Skill-a-thon. Our Novice and Junior Teams placed 2nd at district and 3 kids were in the top 5. Our Senior Team placed 2nd at state and 2 placed in the top 5. Held 2 Horticulture practices and both our novice and junior teams placed 4th. Conducted 2 parliamentary procedure practices with our Junior Team. They placed 3rd at District. This group decided on their own to take on this detailed contest and did well for only having two practices. Assisted 4-H Agent and Senior 4-Hers with a This Is 4-H Workshop for 1st year 4-Hers, a Cloverbud Workshop and a Club Officer Training. Co-superintended the National Consumer and Home Economics Bowl Contests and prepared a state wide consumer decision making workshop which was cancelled due to low participation. Assisted club leaders, project leaders and parents as needed. |
