Impact Report | Starting Date as anew Agent:01/02/08 Time has been utilized developing relationships with the community at all levels and learning the programs available through the Extension Service. I was unable to locate any records of community contacts in the county office files and very little record of past community activities so I pretty much started at ground zero. Advisory boards and community council memberships that impact community relations: -Luna County Health Council -Chances -Carl Perkins Advisory Board (Deming Public Schools) -Deming High School Advisory Board -Mayor Silvas Round Table Committee -Deming Community Coalition -Columbus Community Coalition Awareness and support of members in the above committees has helped spread the word for the following extension programs. -Kitchen Creations: High enough enrollment in May that Luna county now has 2 class series offered instead of one per year. A diabetes support group was created through this as well with support from the health community. -ICAN: Summer program at Centro Jardin de Ninos, one time events at the public library,Head Start, Child care provider education,Grads class Series in March and April, an Adult series in March. Promotion of programs at school, health and community fairs. FY08 ICAN evaluation a great help in understanding the program, what to correct, how to organize. Once ICAN nutrition educator is hired, more classes will be added at all levels -food Handling, food safety trainings at Beehive Assisted Living,Headstart, day care providers. Will continue to increase community awareness of programs offered through the extension service and my involvemnet in the planning and implementation of the programs. |
