Impact Report 4-H Curriculum Development “Cake Pilot Project” The home economist has worked with the Union County home economist for a number of years to develop new state level 4-H curriculum for the baking project area. During our tenure with the State 4-H Curriculum Committee, we have written and/or updated 4-H project manuals and guide sheets for Baking I and Baking II. This year we developed a pilot project for cakes in order to provide 4-H members with a more in-depth project in this area. The previous project combined both cakes and breads. Recipes were tested and reference materials were gathered during several work days to write the project manual. Although formal surveys for the pilot are still being collected by the State 4-H Office, response for the project has been quite positive. Ten youth exhibited their cakes in this year’s Expo NM State Fair. In the Fall of 2007, the home economists will finalize any changes to be made to the cake project and will begin work on a separate bread project.
